About us
LLAURAT IS BORN IN VALENCIA!
Specifically in the region of La Costera, cradle of the Valencia orange. An ideal place for the cultivation of this citrus, both due to the weather conditions and the richness of their lands. Our grandparents have cultivated these fields with genuine passion for years and now we have the privilege of having their best advice and experiences.
CENTENARY WATER LANDS
Our small fields are on irrigated land cultivated for centuries thanks to the waters of the Barxeta and Albaida rivers. Fertile lands near the river, where the water flows naturally, diverted by dams from the river, and led through centuries-old ditches to the fields.
HOW DO WE WATER?
SUSTAINABLE FARMING
Currently, in the Valencian Community, many of these small irrigated fields with centuries-old tradition and access to water in a natural way, have been forced to cease their activity due to the impossibility of finding viability in the cultivation of oranges.
However, on the other hand, huge areas of Mediterranean forest continue to be deforested, and large farms of orange trees are built. Economic land is used to build fields with wide aisles where trucks and tractors can circulate, thus achieving high profitability.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES
DEFORESTATION
Logging of Mediterranean forest of great environmental value due to its importance in the ecological balance
ENERGY COST
Extracting the water from the ground and driving it over large slopes using motors has a high energy cost
DROUGHT
The high water needs of large farms located in forest areas cause overexploitation and drying of aquifers
OUR GOAL
That you can get to know the delicious oranges from our traditional irrigated fields, and thus rescue the production of the ideal areas for this crop, avoiding on the other hand the proliferation of new farms in forest areas
